Do not underestimate the importance of maintaining eye contact with your teenagers when they speak with you. Looking at them directly makes them feel that they are being listened to. Another aid to creating a bond, perhaps, would be to hold your child’s hand during the conversation, as physical contact greatly deepens a sense of connection. We must endeavor to give each of our children the feeling that he/she has a unique personal relationship with us. Do not speak the same way with all of your children, tailor you choice of words and communication style for each particular child.
